Padam Padam posters are out

When they described Kim Bum’s character from Padam Padam as being the “guardian angel” who watches over the blossoming love between Jung Woo-sung and Han Ji-min, I didn’t think they were going to make it a literal guardian angel… or that their idea of guardian angel would be closer to fairy princess.

But fairy princess angel or no, it appears the Noh Hee-kyung vehicle (writer of such dramas as The World They Live In and Goodbye Solo) will pepper its “miraculous love” story with a touch of whimsy. I’m starting to see what they meant by the descriptor fantasy-melo.

I can’t help wishing they’d added a fourth poster to the mix, though, featuring the inevitable bromance between the two boys, who look just as adorable together (if not more) than the main coupling anyway. Oh, well. Angel wings will have to do.

Padam Padam premieres on December 5 on jTBC.

T-ara’s Ji-yeon cast in Dream High 2

Ji-yeon, the young singer of girl group T-ara and budding actress, has been confirmed for the cast of Dream High 2, joining her groupmate Eun-jung (who starred in the first series) in the franchise.

This means we’re about to be deluged with a number of casting announcements for the anticipated sequel to the youth drama all about singin’, dancin’, and bright young dreams crashing up against the harsh realities of what it takes to become an idol star. And who better to portray that than actual idol stars? A lot of times, idol presence in a drama amounts to little more than stunt casting and ratings grabs, but the original Dream High did a pretty solid job of mixing actors with idols and bringing out everyone’s strengths — and sometimes even turning their weaknesses into hilarious plot points. (See: Robot Hye-mi.)

Other idols in contention for the sequel include 2AM’s Jung Jin-woon and Sistar’s Hyo-rin, though as of now they’re just possibilities. Eighteen-year-old Ji-yeon said, “I wanted to take on this part of a student aspiring to perform on the stage while I could, as I think back to my own trainee days. I’ll work really hard, so please look forward to it.”

I’m satisfied with this casting, because although I don’t know much about T-ara’s k-pop activities, I have seen Ji-yeon acting a couple of times and found her warm and likable. She was sweet in last year’s God of Study when her character could have gone way into annoying territory, and she did a pretty good job in her Miss Ripley cameo as the runaway teenaged lesbian daughter to the Japanese prime minister, which I swear was not nearly as crazy a plot point as it sounds on paper. Okay, it was a little dramatic, but worked for the story.

Gong Hyo-jin cameos in Flower Boy Ramyun Shop

Given Gong’s Pasta background, I was hoping for a little Chep-related inside jokery, but instead she’ll play a record store clerk. Chi-soo asks her for help in locating the tune that Eun-bi’s always humming to herself, which, Awww. Something tells me his request is likely to be ridiculous rather than romantic, though. Just a feeling.

Gong said regarding her cameo, “I’m enjoying the show. [Jung Il-woo] is really doing a good job. I even found myself becoming a fan of Chwaaaaa Chi-soo, too.” After finishing the shoot, she said, “I’m excited and trembling to be appearing in Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, which is enjoying such hot popularity. It’s only a short part, but it was fun to come to the set and act with Jung Il-woo and Lee Ki-woo. As a viewer, it’s such an entertaining drama.”

Gong Hyo-jin’s appearance comes in Monday’s Episode 9.

Vampire Prosecutor Episode 9 Korean Drama

Crime scene, broad daylight. Soon-bum leans in close to get a good look at the victim’s bloodied face, and immediately shrinks back in fear. You’d wonder what could possibly rattle a homicide detective’s chains, but it’s not so much the gore as it is the guy. He recognizes the victim immediately as a mob boss.

Tae-yeon gives him a look like, what’re you, afraid of a bug? But Soon-bum steps back, insisting they wash their hands of this case and toss it onto someone else. Getting metaphor-happy, he says, “We’ll just get our clothes dirty, and not even collect the dry cleaning bill!”

Tae-yeon gives him a hilarious Whatthefuck Face, and sweeps the dust off of Soon-bum’s jacket, “I think you’ve been wearing these clothes for way too long. I think it might be time for you to take them off!” I wish he meant it in the dirty way, but no, he means being stripped of his prosecutor’s coat.

He shouts Soon-bum’s name and title so loudly that everyone at the crime scene can hear it. Well that’s one way to ensure he stays on the case. They snipe at each other through gritted teeth, and then Tae-yeon flashes him the most adorable smile ever. GAH. If I could bottle that and sell it, I would.

City Hunter

Recently finished watching City Hunter (Korean Drama). ‘Recently’ actually equates to probably 3 hours ago. Anyways.

It was good, and I really liked the storyline and the development of events, and how everything weaves together to form this giant web. I enjoyed watching the characters, all so distinct and full of personality, and many left pretty deep impressions in the minds of viewers. I liked the love story between Lee Yoon Sung (Lee Minho) and Kim Na Na (Park Min Young), how it’s so cute and sweet, but not overly done. I liked the action scenes, the ways City Hunter executes his plans, with the dramatic soundtrack playing in the background. I liked how the story is quite complex (as compared to other kdramas) and how it leaves you wanting for more in the next episode. I liked the City Hunter, the way he deals with the villains, the way he decided to take his revenge, and the way he chose for himself. I liked the OST, the sound effects, the voices of the actors (i.e. how the texture, tone, pitch of their voices clearly represent their personality). I liked City Hunter as a drama in general.

Wow that was a long paragraph explaining my adoration for a drama.

And I was thinking, how great it is to have a City Hunter in real life, or even better, be a City Hunter in real life. Righting all the wrongs, seeking the truth beneath the ‘truth’ that others make us see, finding evidence and using the law to rightfully sentence them while they’ve been trying to evade it all along. It would be great.

But then again, it would probably shake up the entire society, if, only if there were such corrupt leaders amongst us. And then again, maybe justice isn’t what everyone wants, maybe not everyone wants the truth. Maybe people would rather just live with what there is instead of disrupting the whole system of how things work.

Ohwell. I’ll probably understand it better when I grow up. (I hope. And isn’t that what adults always tell us when something can only be understood when truly experienced? I’ll learn.)

A brand new image of IU's soon to be released album has been revealed. Loen Entertainment had previously revealed the first teaser image a week from now.

In this picture is IU, lying down on a bed in a bright room bathed in sunlight, wearing a blue knit cape, and very eye-catching white fishnet stockings.

The overall image gives off a classic, traditional yet vibrant feel accentuated by the contrast of the blue cape wore by IU and the whiteness of the room and the rest of the image.

This concept image shows off the same refreshing sensibility and light atmosphere from IU's previous releases and concepts. Similar to finding a music box in your grandparents' attic, IU's new release will be full of surprises as stated by Loen Entertainment's representative:

"IU's coming back with a new, more mature image and more touching music. Through this album, fans will
be able to appreciate and witness IU's evolution and various emotions as she heads into her 20s. Please anticipate it."

Meantime, IU full studio album's tracklist will be released today. In addition her full second album "Last Fantasy" is scheduled for release on November 29.

Flower Boy Ramyun Shop Episode 7 Korean Drama

Flower Boy Ramyun Shop Episode 7 Korean Drama - So Chi-soo offers to work the ramyun shop after all, goaded by the knowledge that Eun-bi will be there. I vastly enjoy that throughout the brief commercial break, Chi-soo is up in the corner, making adorable faces at us.

Eun-bi chases him out to ask incredulously why he’s taking on the job. He tells her he’s considering it a lesson in work experience and flashes his crayon contract at her to tell her that she has no say in this. He drives off leaving Eun-bi confused and frustrated, howling at the moon (which bears Chi-soo’s winking face), “Why are you doing this to me? WHYYYY?!”

SONG OF THE DAY

J Rabbit – “aMorejo” [ Download ]

Flower Boy Ramyun Shop Episode 7 Korean Drama Chi-soo, who strolls in late, wearing his idea of work gear — which might work in a Vogue spread interpretation of hard labor, perhaps. He looks about as realistic a construction worker as a stripper. He’s dressed in a black trench coat (see? totally stripper), wearing a hard hat set at a jaunty angle, and brings in his own folding chair so he can sit in the middle of the shop like a director managing his crew.

Thousand Day Promise Episode 11

Thousand Day Promise Episode 11Aunt sits down at the corner snack shop, eyeing the owner warily as she downs shot after shot of soju. She calls Aunt hyungnim, making her Seo-yeon’s mom for sure. They’ve clearly been in contact before, since she doesn’t seem all that shocked to see her stop by.

Aunt lies that she was just in the neighborhood and was curious to see if she was still working in the same spot. Mom muses that if she’d come a few weeks later she’d have missed her, since she’s moving shops. She mentions that her last boyfriend/husband/man-friend died, after she paid years of hospital bills for him, and then sighs that she can’t live without a man. She already has a new one lined up.

Aunt asks why she never once asks about the kids – doesn’t she care how they’re doing? Mom gives a blank look and reminds her that she answered this the last time, and that she’s going to continue to live like they don’t exist. “Do I get anything by seeing them?” Whoa. Seriously? It’s gonna be like that?

The upshot: Aunt not only knows where to find Seo-yeon’s mom, but stops in to see her once in a blue moon. Seo-yeon’s mom, whether or not she’s also sick (doesn’t seem like it so far) is a no-doubt-about-it deadbeat mom. Thousand Day Promise Ep 11 Korean drama

Tree With Deep Roots Episode 14 Korean Drama

How can this show only get more exciting, more intense, and more heartfelt? We’re all wondering, and we’re also probably wondering whether this show can uphold this sheer level of awesome for the remaining episodes or whether it will just run out of energy and fold under the weight of its pitch-perfect story, characters, and pacing. It just can’t keep going at this level, because that would literally make it too good, right?

But if it does keep this up… Drama of the Year? Any takers? Because this show deserves some sort of award, even if its just for… I don’t know, being the best.

EPISODE 14 RECAP

Sejong is the one who approaches Chae-yoon, but Mu-hyul is never far away. So when Chae-yoon points his sword at Sejong’s neck, Mu-hyul is there to stop him. It’s a regular Mexican standoff, but Sejong seems to want to tip the scales in Chae-yoon’s favor by ordering Mu-hyul to step down. In a daring move, Mu-hyul flatly refuses that order. He’s someone who was once willing to cut the head off Former King Taejong to protect Sejong, and he won’t step back now.

The King seems unafraid, and even steps forward so that if Chae-yoon so wished, he could kill him. But when he steps forward, Chae-yoon takes an uncertain and tiny step back. He wants to know why Sejong is putting himself in harm’s way… and then Sejong drops the bomb: “You’re not here to kill me, right? You are here to die.”

He’s right. Chae-yoon has now had his opportunity to kill the King (or at least try), and he’s purposefully chosen not to. But then, he turns his own blade around and holds it to his neck as if he’s about to commit suicide. Mu-hyul thinks fast, and knocks his blade out of his hands before he can do it. Chae-yoon ends up on the floor, wondering why the King is sparing his life. He’s only a lowly slave, and now he’s tried to kill the King. So why?
